| Demitra Papadinis, the founder and artistic director of the New England Shakespeare Festival (formerly the New Hampshire Shakespeare Festival) has brought live performances of Shakespearean plays to audiences of all ages and backgrounds throughout the region since 1994.
A master of the First Folio/Cue Script technique (the technique used by Shakespeare’s original players) Ms. Papadinis “has broken down the barriers people have … after learning Shakespeare in school, and shows the performability of Shakespeare and what makes it exciting to watch,” wrote the Salem Daily News.
Ms. Papadinis studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and is a summa cum laude graduate of Marymount Manhattan College, with a bachelor of arts degree in directing and acting.
Captivated by the First Folio/Cue Script technique, which emphasizes action, emotion and spontaneity, Ms. Papadinis founded the New Hampshire Shakespeare Festival in 1994. The company’s name was changed in 2002 to better reflect its regional nature. Each year, the NESF performs to thousands of people throughout New England.
One of the world’s experts in the First Folio/Cue Script technique, Ms. Papadinis has presented workshops and educational programs at schools, colleges, theatre groups and Shakespearean Festivals throughout the country, such as The New England Theatre Conference, Emory University and the Georgia Shakespeare Festival. She also heads the NESF’s educational outreach program, which brings Shakespeare to children of all ages throughout New England.
